to Transition Woking
Hi All
Following my post on Woking People, I have been asked to provide a bit
more information. How about this?
Sure. Transition Towns are "a grassroots network of communities that
are working to build resilience in response to peak oil, climate
destruction, and economic instability." The Transition Network was
set up to support communities around the world as they adopt/adapt
their locale into a more resilient, lower carbon settlement.
With this in mind, Transition Town groups can incorporate many
things. Woking Transition had an experimental shared garden last
year, where we grew vegetables, meeting for digging, planting and
watering sessions, and sharing in the vegetables produced. We are
looking into shared garden schemes, have an interest in sustainable
transport initiatives, local art projects and eco-housing.
Another idea is to set up a cafe/hub where people can come and share
ideas, skills, show films, and share their concerns about a changing
world.
We welcome anyone to the group who is interested in the issues that we
face, both globally and individually, and who would like to meet like-
minded people and take steps towards building resilience, and, in the
process, benefit the whole community of Woking.
Ian, the woman who requested more information is the woman trying to
set up a music venue in Woking. I'm hoping she gets hooked in by the
bit about the cafe, and immediately sees the mutual benefits!
