THE POSITION:

The Nashville Public Library is seeking a MOTIVATED, INNOVATIVE, CREATIVE person to serve as the Studio NPL Coordinator. Studio NPL will consist of library spaces with the latest technology where teens will learn real world, 21st-century skills, including but not limited to creating their own robots, designing their own video games, and producing their own music and films. The Studio NPL Coordinator will need a high level of ENTHUSIASM and a unique combination of people skills and technology skills. The position will be a mixture of direct interaction with a diverse group of teens and administrative duties.

 

This is a Civil Service position responsible for the coordination of engaged learning activities, supervising and scheduling mentors /outreach staff, serving as a support to the teen staff at all locations and insuring continuity of high-quality programming throughout the system. The successful candidate will also be involved in the work of expanding community partnerships with other youth-serving organizations in the city. Must be willing to work some weekends.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Identifies needed expertise and hires part-time and full-time mentors
  • Fosters a positive, productive, and engaging environment for teens in conjunction with mentors, staff, and volunteers.
  • Supervises and schedules TOTAL coordinator, lead mentor, and volunteers
  • Facilitates program planning and activities in all libraries locations
  • Conducts tours and provides outreach programs for school and community groups to increase awareness and grow use of facilities and correlating virtual opportunities
  • Oversees the incorporation of the Studio@NPL vision
  • Writes, collects, and assembles reports on the programs and services provided
  • Creates assessment models and evaluates outcomes
  • Monitors trends in popular culture and tracks best practices in youth development, education, and new technologies
  • Coordinates professional development and training for all teen staff
  • Develops curriculum around targeted programming areas
  • Establishes new partnerships with businesses and youth serving agencies
  • Maintain expertise with current technology trends and digital technologies
  • Attends professional conferences, workshops and continuing education courses as necessary
  • Identifies new technologies and works with Technology Services to identify vendors and products for purchase

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the area of Library Information Science, Education, Social Services or a related field and four (4) years of experience working with teens in a library, educational, recreational or social services setting, including two (2) years acting in a lead or supervisory capacity.

 

LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid "Class D" Driver's License.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and engage teens positively
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Clear communication skills (written and oral) and comfort speaking publicly
  • Experience in curriculum planning and development
  • Experience designing quality coaching and professional development
  • Experience and fluency with new technologies and social media
  • Familiarity with the four focus areas of Maker, Music, Writing, and Video Games; in-depth experience in one of the four focus areas
  • Familiarity with media tools such as iMovie, Finalcut Pro, Garage Band, Logic, Adobe CS4
  • Full knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies and Mac operating systems
