Hi THRA Peoples!
Item A)
Craig here ... I am your rep for the Toronto Drug Strategy's Overdose Co-ordinating Committee. In the light of legitimate community pressure re preventable overdose deaths in Toronto ... City Counsel has now requested that an Overdose Action Plan be developed by the Toronto Drug Strategy. The ODCC has been involved in planning ... and after years of discussing and pushing on this crisis, I think we have the bones of something progressive. Our recommendations will be presented for comment and your input, at 4 Community Consultations. Our member Involvement has been requested for these Overdose Action Consultations. See the attached poster for dates and times. There are two ways you can be involved:
1) Speak! Come out to as many of the discussions as you can. As a Drug User effected by overdose risk and overdose deaths, we hope this is a chance to have your wisdom and experience effect appropriate and overdue change. If you can't get a ticket, don't worry, none will be turned away.
2) Help make these events happen with appropriate community involvement, with set up and operational support, or by facilitating a discussion table.
Events support energy is required:
Monday January 30th - Central 12-4pm
Tuesday January 31th - North York 9am-1pm
Thursday February 2nd - Etobicoke 2pm - 6pm
Monday February 13th - Scarborough 9am-1pm
Item B)
The Canadian Harm Reduction Network has a Drug Policy Event happening Tuesday January 31st at University of Toronto. The list of speakers looks really really good. At our last monthly meeting, THRA membership agreed to co-sponsor this event. Please see the attached flyer. Please come out if you have interest in Drug Policy stuff ... and we could use some bodies to staff an information table, in the 5-8pm range.
Please promote and support these events a much as you are able!
Flyers with additional info are attached.
If you need support in attending, talk to us!
See you soon!
