Scholar Classes 2013-2014 Year
Key of Liberty—During this two-semester program, scholars study the American Revolutionary War period, the United States Constitution, and other founding documents. Directed to 12-15 year old practice scholars, this class offers an inspiring environment in which students are challenged to learn about many principles of government and read biographies of the founders.
TJYC—Students are introduced to the greatest statesmen of history. Directed towards the 14-18 year old scholar, this class is an intensive research and writing course. Each student receives individual coaching with a writing mentor. The student also has opportunities to read great literature and learn self-management skills.
Pyramid Project- There are four main parts to the Pyramid Project: Symbols, Patterns, Reasoning and Truth. These four elements are taught in a fun and exciting way involving math and science. This class is for 14-18 year olds. The scholars also put on an outdoor school for the younger children in the second semester, so they learn many leadership skills as well.
Shakespeare Conquest—Students are introduced to the greatest poet-philosopher of all time. In this class, students are challenged to read, listen to or watch 7 to 17 Shakespeare plays. They learn who Shakespeare was, his insights into human nature and many aspects of his poetry. They are exposed to the heightened language by performing a play at the end of a twelve-week intensive acting course. Shakespeare Conquest is open to all youth 12-18 years old.
Unleash Your Voice—Students are taught parliamentary procedure, impromptu, tandem speeches, and debate through various exercises in class, wonderful instructional literature and personal instruction from Mentors. This is a fun and exciting class for all ages 12-18. No matter what skill level they are when they start, they will be able to greatly improve their public speaking and debate ability in just one year.
1-2 elective classes - TBD - In the past we have done things like Choir, Ballroom Dance, Self Defense, Foreign Language...etc. No matter what it is... it is sure to be something that will develop a skill and be fun at the same time!
