Here's a good one. I have a 2.0.11 TW loaded with plugins. I migrate to
2.1, and it initially comes up OK, I click around, try a few fancy
things, and I'm feelin' good. But trying to load any moderately large
tiddler causes it to loop forever. After a few "script running too
long" cycles I click cancel. The tiddler I am trying to load displays
with a huge (really huge) box and it's blank. Clicking Edit instantly
displays the tiddler in the editor.

Ah hunt for an incompatible plugin. But I can't open a plugin reliably
because they loop forever. I don't feel right about using the editor
after this wacky behavior. Ah, the new plugin manager. Nope, it acts
goofy too.

Now what? Start deleting with Notepad in non-linewrap mode. Verrry
slowly I start pruning plugins. Starting with 32, I get down to 2, and
then I find it! SortedGridPlugin. Of course... now why didn't I think
of that? It hijacks the table formatter. And that's why the plugin
manager failed, it uses a table, ha ha.

Well I fixed it in short order and now it looks like the rest of the
stuff, including my new plugins, is working well. Bravo to Jeremy and
Udo! I'll post the 2.1 flavor of SortedGridPlugin as soon as I can.

For those timid few who like to avoid such adventures, you can put '#start:safe' at the end of the URL to disable the macros from starting on that load.

For example: http://tiddlystyles.com/#start:safe

That way you can remove tags from plugins or tweak the code to try to fix it. Kudos on fearlessly diving in with notepad though. You are a true TiddlyHero now.

Thank you! I was going through the same thing, but doing the 'Get new
copy, install one at a time, test, repeat' version. Since I was doing
them from a to z... S was not going to be for a bit.

Bob, this is most definitately on topic. Thanks for the heads up and the story! Always the last one you look at huh..  I hope you used binary elimination techniques, ie remove half the plugins at a time to determine if problem is in suspect half, then remove half the suspect half, etc. You used notepad? ...shudder... ;)

OK, I finished up the new SortableGridPlugin and put my new TiddlyWwiki
on the air. See
