In the Import tiddlers tiddler I enter the URL, click Fetch, I do some
waiting (step2) and the URL is confirmed (i.e it reads Please waith
while the file is loaded from: <URL>) , and then get an *empty* list
in step 2. I.e only the headlines (Title Snippet Tags) with a drop-
down menu immediately under it, and no plugins listed!

I should mention that I'm using the 'Monkey GTD' application of TW.

Can anybody please help? What is wrong?

sincerely

Mat

MonkeyGTD 2.1 alpha r91 uses TiddlyWiki v2.1.3

However, as of TW2.2, the internal file format used by TW changed in
such a way that documents running TW2.1.x can't read tiddlers from the
'store area' contained in a document based on TW2.2+. Fortunately,
there IS an alternative solution that CAN import from TW2.2+ into a
TW2.1.x document:

Install these two tiddlers:
http://www.TiddlyTools.com/#ImportTiddlersPlugin
http://www.TiddlyTools.com/#ImportTiddlersPluginPatch

The ...Patch plugin adds the necessary code enhancements to TW2.1.3 so
that the ImportTiddlersPlugin control panel can read tiddlers from
TW2.2+ documents.

Note: The ...Patch does NOT fix the **core's** importTiddlers
functionality. Even so, the ImportTiddlersPlugin interactive control
panel is SO much more usable that you probably won't want to use the
backstage importer anymore. :-)

Eric (or anyone), I'm so grateful that you're helping me!

Just a somewhat embarrassing question (for me); How do I install the
suggested tiddlers when the very problem I have is to install/import
tiddlers? I realize I'm supposed to be a able to do this manually, but
how am I supposed to tag it to make things work? I copy-pasted the
whole ImportTiddlersPlugin into an empty tiddler (was this correct?)
and named it as such... but what about tags etc and am I supposed to
do somethign after that?

My sincerest thanks for your kind help!!!!

this is not an embarrassing question at all; it can be hard to get
started at first (we're working to improve that)...

Yes; plugins need to be tagged with "systemConfig"; this will make
TiddlyWiki interpret and process their contents as code.

You can also use the import wizard - instructions here:

This won't work for in this particular instance...

The core's importTiddlers 'wizard' in Amzg's TW2.1.3-based MonkeyGTD
document can't read tiddlers from a TW2.2+ document (such as
TiddlyTools).... which is the problem that Amzg reported in the first
place!!

As a result, the manual "copy/paste/tag" technique is really the only
viable option. Of course, after ImportTiddlersPlugin (and the
companion ...PluginPatch) have been successfully installed, the manual
method will not be needed anymore.

As a general reminder: when using copy/paste to install a plugin,
always make sure to copy the tiddler *source* content (from 'edit'
mode), not the rendered content (shown in 'view' mode). Also, make
sure to copy the *entire* plugin content, not just the 'code' portion,
so that the licensing, documentation, configuration, and revision
information is properly retained.

Of course, you're right - I hadn't taken that into account.
I've updated the wiki to include a note on this issue, as well as links
to ImportTiddlersPlugin and ImportTiddlersPluginPatch.
