Hi,

I'm just starting to use TiddlyWiki and I'm just trying to set things up correctly at the beginning.

I really like the idea of having everything in one place - scraps of information, ideas, references, journal etc etc.

Is this the preferred method or do some people have separate files for different subjects?

Also, are there any upper limits to the number of tiddlers - can large numbers slow things down?

Thanks
Jon

There are no built-in limitations.

Of course. But the limitation is then mainly in the browser and OS.

I prefer to have separate files for different unrelated subjects: one for my thesis notebook (http://tesis.tiddlyspot.com/) and one for each project I start (lectures, investigation, etc.). Its like having diferent paper notebooks for different things.

At first, with TW Classic, I created a big and very complex (because of customizations) notebook, and soon it was too slow to be useful on my old computer. Now I prefer to keep it simple and light.

Thanks for the advice. I won't plan to put my entire life in one file then!

Good question.... I read somewhere on web that someone had 4k tiddlers other saw 10k tiddlers in a single file. I plan to store my data in multiple TW5 files but dont know how to link them as in TW classic (includeplugin). I am also courious what is the max length of a tag and the max number of tags in a single tiddler...

There's no equivalent of the includeplugin in TW5. You can achieve something similar by using TiddlyWiki under Node.js, where you can separate your content out into multiple wiki folders containing individual tiddler files.

TiddlyWiki doesn't impose limits on the length of a tag (or any tiddler title), nor does it limit the number of tags applied to a tiddler.

Best wishes
