I have seen discussions from a year ago about creating backups, but I
don't know if this went beyond a short discussion.

I am new to TW, and find the automatic backups feature cumbersome -
chiefly because the files are so large. At the end of one period of
editing, one could easily create 10Mb of backups! I know one can turn
it off, but that's not what I want. Also the date notation is hard to
use when there are so many backups so very close together.

What I'd like to see is (say) in the backstage, where the save button
is, to have a drop-down menu with several options:
* save
* save + make backup
* make backup only

And perhaps something similar in the left-hand menu.

And when one of the make backup options is selected, the backup is
made with the current date-time suffix. Or perhaps without the
milliseconds - I don't think it would be possible to make more than
one backup within a second!

Thanks for a great product!

Hi James,

further the is DoBackupMacro and Backup2Text:

The former equals your 'save + make backup' idea,

the later only saves tiddlers without the TW core in a text file.
Which, when something went wrong, can be imported in a empty TW via
the backstage again.

W.

Thanks JCO. That would be an improvement, but one still doesn't have
the flexibility I'm after. My work-rate on a particular project is
not uniform, so sometimes I might want an hourly or daily backup, and
other times much less frequent.

Great - that looks like just what I want. Thanks Wolfgang.
