I'm having trouble figuring out how to change the color of a couple
page elements. I'd like to change the background color of the message
box popups, such as the box that pops up to display search results.

Also the default button used for nested sliders, including the "on
hover" color. I'm working with the MPTW if that makes a difference in
where to go to make some of these modifications.

Well, a web developer would tell you to use Firebug or a bookmarklet
like MODI[1] or XRAY[2] to find out which selector you need to use.
However, you'd likely need some HTML/CSS knowledge to make sense of that.

That suggests you're using one of the following plugins:

That in turns means we need more details[3].

I'll give Firebug a try. I should probably become familiar with that
tool anyway, and just have neglected to do so. My CSS knowledge is
pretty weak, but I can sometimes muddle my way through it.

I'm just using the default TW search capability. By popup box I just
mean the message box that displays on the screen indicating how many
tiddlers were found that match the text searched.

FND, Firebug helped tremendously. I can't believe I hadn't used it
before.
