Hi everyone,
There is the ancient RolloverPlugin which lets one insert one link for
the tumbnail, and a second for an enlarged picture becoming visible
upon mouse rollover. Though didn't tried if this is still working with
TW 2.2.6

One option would be ShowCurrentDirectory, with which you can open a
directory and from there open the desired pic. However, this behaves
differently on Firefox and IE. While IE does shows thumbnails, Firefox
does not. However, in comparison using just the regular file explorer
I would consider much more straight forward.

Again haven tried the following: "Umibozu web album", but by its
description it seems the most appropriate:
"It is highly customizable thanks to its embedded TiddlyWiki
interface, and designed to scale to repositories of over 10000 photos.
Umibozu maps your existing photo directory structure to an online web
album. Need to add some photos ? Run Umibozu to synchronize within
seconds your public web album. Photo albums can reside on your system
or be exported to a CD or USB stick, but it is mainly designed to be
published to a web server so it can be accessed and modified online,
while you keep feeding in new batches of photos.
Umibozu is based on the excellent ImageMagik library for manipulating
images, and on the libxml2 HTML parser to modify a Tiddlywiki
interface in order to build the web album. The interface is tweaked
with quite a few plugins to make it more media orientated, and
slightly modified as well to fit my needs."
Please inform which you finaly choose and how it went.
Regards,
W.
