As far as I can tell the last post on their Google forum is dated
January 27, and now carpenter reports he can't post his questions
there. Add the fact that one of their top engineers, Rakesh,
has left the company recently and things start to look more than a
little grim.

The last thing I want to do is promote false rumors here, especially
regarding the possible demise of a company with a product line as
promising and admirable as E+'s, so I'm asking anyone with real
knowledge here to step forward and fill us in. Obviously E+'s
financial health and business solvency have everything to do with a
prospective e-bike buyer's choices here, and I'm guessing there might
be one or two forum members out there who might know what's going on.

Maybe DC can check in, he's a dealer for them.
I came close to being one but couldn't cut the right deal for me.

FWIW I've e-mailed E+ this morning seeking clarification of their
business status and will report any reply I receive.

E+ is alive and well. I talked to a couple of their guys in the Sales/
Marketing division, and they told me they've been busy gearing up for
the Spring. They also hinted towards some exciting new products!

Are you mixing up EMS with Texas Electric Bikes? Doug of TEB mentioned
an order that size (from Dubai?) several weeks ago.

Rich has been in touch recently with Rakesh, who is a former top
engineer at EMS (just recently resigned), so I'm going to take this as
a reliable source.

I'd strongly suggest EMS start minding their websites though--it looks
terrible if the Google forum appears abandoned or unmonitored, and
EMS's home site has no news posted for months now, so also appears
dormant/untended. Since perception is all in marketing, this is not a
trivial matter IMO. What is a prospective buyer to think when he/she
finds both sites in limbo like this?

FWIW my e-mail query to EMS got an auto-reply mentioning that the
normal contact person is on maternity leave, and gave a forwarding e-
mail contact. We'll see if I hear back from him next week.

we'll get the bottom line here very soon.

I just sent a message/question about new Spring products on the E+
forum, linking back to this discussion.

Also, I spoke with Rakesh yesterday:

Gentlemen Greetings,

My name is Tim and I am the Director or Sales and marketing here at
Electric Motion Systems. There seems to be much speculation as to the
health of EMS since the departure of the former President. I can
assure you we are alive and well. All Engineers involved in the
original design and development of the E+ are still here at EMS
diligently working on new technologies and further product offerings.
These are exciting times for us all!

Within the next few weeks we will be rolling out a new corporate
website at www.epluselectricbike.com that will include some new
products. For now, this address just links back to our current
address. As to our Google forum, I was unaware no one could post.
I’m having this looked at currently, my apologies.
Once again, EMS is stronger and healthier than ever and moving in a
positive direction!

Cheers,
Tim

This is great news Tim; thanks for posting so promptly. I think I can
speak for us all in wishing you guys success in your venture and new
website. We're rooting for you!

I'd suggest you post appropriate redirecting instructions on your old
site so as to assure all interested parties that E+ is healthy and
moving forward.

Best Wishes,

I agree with Deerfencer,
if you were potental buyer and wanted to know if you could simply buy
product and got no answer for days and days what would you think.
I sent 2 enquires from EMS web site and wrote 2 posts for EMS forum
which were never approved, no answered.
Yes, forum looks like abandoned, probably many posts wait for
approval.

MC,

This came to my attention on Friday night and we are working to fix
this. Several weeks ago we opened the Group so you could post
without pre-approval. Currently, I can’t get to the setting to check
out what’s going on, so it may take Google intervention. We are going
through a transition with passwords, usernames ect. My apologies if
customer service did not promptly answer your email, I will address
this. Please feel free to email me with your questions and we all
appreciate your patience.

Cheers,

I just took Tim off moderation (a default safety setting for all new

Tim,

Welcome aboard, and please feel free to use this forum for posting any
news and/or progress reports from EMS, especially as the company goes
through this transition to a new home website.

In fact I'd encourage EMS to post product development news here
regularly as long as the posts
remain professional, concise, and informative. I think I speak for
most of us here in saying that we regard EMS as one of the very few e-
bike companies on the cutting edge technologically, so of course we're
interested in any news regarding your product line.

And of course we'd hope you treat the forum as a two-way street by
listening to what our members are looking for in their dream e-bikes,
whether it be extended range, a regeneration lockout feature (here
here!), or whatever. Matra engineers did exactly that by monitoring
this forum after they purchased rights to the Wavecrest drive system.
If you're interested in seeing the kind of innovations our members
were looking for back then, do a search of these boards under "Matra
dream list" or words to that effect and it will likely pull up some of
those posts.

Regards,

Larry

Welcome to the forum Tim.

I liked Larry's suggestion about the dream list.

My wishes are the following:

1. 21 speeds
2. LiPO packs
3. Name brand bike components

My personal wish list--four words:

Better batteries, more range.

Of course you'll have to charge for this, so the basic 10Ah hub
battery hub bike model could remain intact for those who have modest
range needs and are looking to keep cost down. Additional 10Ah modules
that can be wired parallel and mounted on a STURDY rear rack with a
pannier option for holding multiple aux packs (up to three--one on
top, one in each side pannier)
could be offered at a competitive per module price with a solid 3-year
warranty to match Opti's.
Some sort of idiotproof plug-and-play wiring system would be
important.

Battery pack weight would obviously be critical and needs to be kept
to a minimum. I've personally ridden with up to 60 pounds or more of
battery weight in the back (ugh--not recommended!) and think that
about half that weight or less is optimal, so 8-10 pounds per module
would be ideal. My experience with pannier packs in general has been
very positive from a bike handling standpoint, but I can't emphasize
enough how bulletproof and sturdy the rear rack needs to be--namely
made of high strength steel tubing (see any serious bike touring site;
the Tubus brand racks get consistently high ratings) and attached to
the bike in three points. (I personally favor a seatpost collar AND
rear frame triangle mounts combined--see Axiom Odysee.) Think high
speed vibration over washboard dirt roads and/or occasional pothole
action. Peruse virtually any e-bike user site and you'll inevitably
come upon the "lost my battery off the rack" posts, often with
disastrous consequences.

In the end you'd be offering your customers a modular-type battery
pack system with an ultimate capacity of 40Ah or so, plenty of power
for the vast majority of us and enough to (finally!) truly meet those
fantasy ultimate range numbers of 40-60 miles that so many e-bike
makers falsely claim.
You'd also be reducing the per pack amperage draw of each module for
longer pack life and minimal voltage sag, a performance booster.
