Following is the job description:

 

Position Summary:

SAP Database Administrator to maintain, monitor and enhance the SQL Server and Oracle databases supporting SAP and non-SAP  applications on Windows platform.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Provide support, maintenance and enhancement of the existing RDBMS environments. Resolve problems and answer questions related to the RDBMS and platform environment, contact vendor support when necessary and facilitate application development and client problem resolution
• RDBMS performance monitoring and tuning: Closely monitor performance; identify problems and implement solutions; ensure the database is running at optimum speed and efficiency
• Maintain database backup/recovery environment: Respond quickly to refresh data; verify implementation of correct backup strategy; develop recovery procedures; support recovery from loss of data caused by user or system error
• Install and upgrade RDBMS and related products: Keep RDBMS at current release and maintenance levels; install and maintain supporting products.

• Reorganize database structures as needed: Automate procedures at regular intervals; use tools to reorganize or defragment database table spaces, tables, and indexes; provide efficient database environment to maximize productivity and improve performance
• Perform application data refreshes on request: Refresh data from one environment to another at request; execute necessary tasks to accomplish this, including export, drop, create, and import.
•  Capacity planning and reporting: Work with Windows and SAN administrators to monitor file system space, database allocation, etc.; verify efficient use of disk storage; reclaim dead space; optimize space allocation and avoid out-of-space conditions

•  Participate in the evaluation and recommendation of DBA tools and new DBMS technologies
• Work with developers to improve SQL statements and implement index to ensure optimal database performance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• 5-8 years IT experience with a minimum of 2 years experience administrating SAP R/3 databases is required. SAP Basis experience a plus
• Three years experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or higher and 1-2 years Oracle 9i or higher is required
• Experience providing production support in a multi-RDBMS environment
• Proficient in SQL

Qualifications (Experience, Education and Competencies):

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or appropriate combination of education and experience
• Strong analytical, problem solving and multi-tasking skills required, as well as communication and interpersonal skills and good organizational skills
• Must be committed to provide a high level of customer service to internal clients

Job Requirements:

Travel - less than 10%
