In general, self-made tools can have a greater connection to their
user, but their efficacy as tools is also limited by the creator's
craftmanship.

Somewhere between scrabbling in the dirt for the materials to build the tools to build the other tools, and so forth, to searching through the dross of commercial weaponry for the Blade or Cup or Wand that speaks to you. Some of us prefer to build our weapons, maybe because we like the process itself; others realize that they would rather have the weapon and use it than the experience of building one. I have both.
