Hello Everyone,
It's that time of the week again. Thanks to all that participated last
week. Here's the new prompt:

"Is a picture really worth more than a thousand words? Why or why not?"

I believe a picture is worth a 1000 words because it's objective like an art piece.  All of us will have our interpretations about the
picture.

Rebecca

Yes, it is worth 1,000 words. So many of my clients want pictures to
tell their story. No, these aren't Monets but they are a way to
express the objective or topic without speaking 1,000 words. I'm all
for pictures!

As for art, isn't it a wonderful skill to be able to look at the
painting or drawing and find the words for it? A novel isn't too far
off the mark from a painting or drawing... we have a skill to read to
find the real words for what it means....we all find books that we can
completely get into or relate to and those novels that we loathe or
simply can't bear another boring page. I hope I can help my children
learn to find the glasses to see both the words of a picture and those
in a novel. Life is so much more enchanting that way!

And, there's nothing like a good doodle session in a long meeting to
stay focused.

Agreed, agreed and agreed!
  • A picture shows me at a glance what it takes dozens of pages of a book to expound - Russian writer Ivan Turgenev in 1862
  • One look is worth a thousand words - an ad of 1921
  • One picture is worth ten thousand words - a 1927 Chinese proverb
  • A good sketch is better than a long speech - Napolean Bonaparte
There is definitely a lot of significance and meaning behind what is said.

Please find attached a picture by Saul Stienberg that was drawn out of a simple straight line and could mean a lot more than 1000 words.

Ok, I am going to have to be the one to disagree. I think a picture is
worth LESS than a thousand words. If you see a picture of a beautiful
island you can't experience the island the same way you can with a
well written piece of content. You can sense the salty breeze touching
your skin. I think you are much more able to connect with something
with words rather than with a picture.

I presume that there is the sense of perception that seems to act more on what you see, read or feel. Don't you think so Alyssa?
