This week I thought we would try something different. What are your
thoughts about the following quote? Can you relate? Why or why not?

"If I don't write to empty my mind, I go mad."

Lord Byron

Personally, I can relate to this 100%. Before I began writing every
day, I had a lot of trouble sleeping because it seemed my mind never
turned off. I was distracted through out the day because my mind was
always racing. Now that I write every day my mind finally shuts off at
night for the first time in my life. During the day, I can actually
focus on the task at hand, unless I have skipped a day writing. If I
skip a day writing, all I do is think about writing and what I want to
write about. I will have entire pieces pre-written in my head
replaying over and over again until I can finally sit down and get it
all out. Writing everyday has truly been a life changing event.

That's a good point. If I have a good writing day, I sleep a lot better.

Gotta love Lord Byron!  It would have been fabulous to have tea with him!

When I'm inspired to write I must do it.  Sometimes the words come fast and furious; my fingers can't keep up with the pace  Also, I feel better when I write all of my ideas down.  They may sit in my ideas file, but at least I have them.  If I don't immediately get up and write down my ideas, I feel restless.  This is how I wrote my short film within a half hour a few weeks ago.  I had the idea written down and then received more information.  I wrote it down and went back to bed.  I couldn't sleep.  I had to turn on the computer and write my short film.  BTW:  it was well received by my writer's group.  They would like to see me expand it...We'll see :-)

Wonderful quote! How exactly true—if I fail to write not only to empty my mind but to perfection I would certainly go awfully mad.

True Alyssa! Whenever I write and find that it is close to my expectation, I sleep like a log; but whenever I find even a rudiment of dissatisfaction in the day's work, I leave no stone unturned till I get it right. Writing is like an expedition into the woods—there is fun and peril—calling for you to be attentive and sober always. But whatever it is writing is invigorating as well.

This quote can be interpreted by a writer as meaning it's about
writing (working). This quote can also be interpreted by someone who
is under a great deal of stress or has a big decision to make...any
type of thing that causes the human brain to incessantly hone in on
it. Writing can release that stress a bit. Think of it as a form of
journaling. Not so much to track the bad things but to unload it,
vent it in a journal. It works for me.
