Hey Academy 2013! Hope all is well. As you can imagine, there has been a lot of planning going into the next season already, and we thought we'd bring you all up to speed on what's happening, as well as talk about a new way to discuss all things Academy.
1. Leadership: We've finalized our new leadership for 2014. Unlike previous years, we are actually having three captains for Maverick. Don't worry, we promise it won't keep growing; actually we kicked Higy out, so there you go...Our captains for Maverick 2014 are: BBWT, Andy & Matt. We will likely recruit some assistance amongst the roster for certain activities, but this is the core leadership for the year.
2. Goals: We have reviewed the feedback from the 2013 end-of-season survey, and have decided on some goals going into the 2014 season. They are as follows, in order of priority:
- Podium finish at Nationals (in waterloo!)
- Maintain a solid program for subsequent years
- In no particular order:
- Improve team bonding
- Improve team chemistry
- Maximize our fitness potential leading up to nationals
3. Practice & Strategic Planning: One thing we have struggled with in the past is providing detailed, accurate information regarding upcoming practices and our in-game strategies. This year, we are rectifying this shortfall by providing practice plans and strategy books well in advance. This will allow everyone to review (and even discuss) practices and strategies before we get to them on the field.
4. Communication, discussion & feedback: Our primary method of communication over the years has always been through Google Groups/email. While it has served its purpose, it is limited regarding the interaction you can have with your teammates and leadership. To rectify this, we'll be creating a new private Facebook group where we can generate discussions, distribute information and plan events. You will be getting invited to the new "2014 Academy Preseason" group shortly.
That's it for now. Once the facebook group gets off the ground, we will be posting some questions regarding the upcoming season, and we're looking forward to the discussions that follow.
Matt
