DETAILS: Sunset Promotions & the Fringe Arts Collective present the
third annual "Funksgiving" with a banquet of funky beats. This year
we welcome Berlin producer Kentastic, whose releases under the moniker
"Torpedo Boyz" have helped blur the lines between breakbeat, rock and
pop. Their incredibly funky uptempo compositions combine elements of
rock, house, disco, and unserious fun into dance music that is quite
simply unique. Torpedo Boyz have drawn international acclaim for their
2007 release "Headache Music" with its sardonic raps about tweakers at
bars, and the need for better drumming. This snarky humorous edge
makes them seem almost like the European version of the LCD
Soundsystem or a less sinister Evil 9. If you like your beats well
done don't miss this rare SF performance.
Also on the menu is the San Francisco underground hero Romanowski. The
stuntman, nudist, disk-jockey, collage artist, sneaker painter, and
CEO of Trouser Trout records has been dropping funky beats in San
Francisco for the better part of 15 years. And though his releases run
the gamut from nufunk, organic breaks, to fresh dancehall to Bollywood
beats, Romanowski's heart and soul is in the funk. There are few in
the Bay Area with a fatter collection of juicy funk 45's and the skill
to link them together.
Another darling of the SF funkerground DJ Tal Klein is celebrating the
release of his 3 nufunk E.Ps by touring the US, Canada and England.
One of the most underrated Djs in the city, Tal is an expert at
layering the modern beats with oldschool themes. Ditto that with
Motion Potion, a wildcard if there ever was one, and Malarkey, who's
weekly Juke Joint parties have kept the funk alive in the North Bay.
Fred Funk is a tech-breaks wizard who has long plied his trade as a
member of the Brass Tax crew.
The Fringe Collective DJs have been cooking up the dance floors all
summer. Don't mind the cold. We plan on heating it up further as we go
into the the indoor season.
Tim Dietz is quickly gaining local notice for his various breakbeat
concoctions while Victor Vega has been serving tasty servings of
electro treats. Big Dolla will be mixing his flavor of mashed up
breaks for a dessert .
Adding some culture to the counterculture is the goal of the Fringe
Arts Collective, and they will be represented by numerous live
painters and fine artists who will ply their visual candy to the
greasy beats.
See you on the dance floor
