Get Freaky @ 1015 Folsom
Friday June 1, 2007
Featuring:
Cut Chemist
http://www.cutchemist.com
Cut Chemist spent 12 years as a DJ and producer for LA hip-hop dynamos
Jurassic 5, five years playing the turntables-as-a-beautiful
instrument backing up the Grammy-winning Latin alternative band
Ozomatli, and several years releasing highly bootlegged mixtapes (such
as his Brain Freeze Original Soundtrack collaboration with DJ Shadow
in 1999). Throughout it all, he's found the time to helm his own
recurring club nights in Los Angeles. As an in-demand DJ that has
always tried to further his craft as a producer, Cut Chemist has had
to juggle a lot more than beats over the years. You might have also
heard his track "The Audience is Listening" in recent commercials for
the Ipod Nano. Cut Chemist will be breaking out all the gear for this
special live performance, which will include video mixing. Cut Chemist
goes on at midnight!

THE CAUSE
In this age of "no child left behind," funding for arts and music in
public schools has been drastically cut. For many students, these
programs provide a much-needed escape from the rest of their lives. At
El Dorado Elementary, which serves the areas around the Sunnydale
housing projects, we are trying to expose students to a myriad of
artistic genres and give them tools to express themselves creatively
throughout the rest of their lives.
The after-school program serves over one-third of the schoolpopulation
and is the only place these student can experience classes in music,
dance, theater, art, and environmental education. For the 2007 - 2008
school year we are planning to offer instruction on hip-hop (taught by
Sisterz of the Underground), Planet Art, Tree Frog Treks, drumming,
and digital photography. None of these classes were available this
year, partially because our after-school funding has been at an
all-time low. All proceeds from this event will go directly into
funding these programs.
