Hello Film Co-op members, workshop participants and friends,

The 6th annual Rocket City Short Film Festival is Oct 22, starting at 7pm in the Flying Monkey Theater.  Please join us in what promises to be a great festival featuring short films made by local and regional filmmakers.  Whether you are a filmmaker, a film enthusiast, or just looking for a great evening out supporting your local community, this film festival is for you.  And the admission? Still only $5.

We get a number of repeat filmmakers each year - and their films keep getting better and better.  With the advent of low cost high definition cameras, end especially the latest DSLR camera, short films have never looked better.

We will, as always, have our "Audience Award" for best film of the evening - the film with the loudest applause (as measured on a sound level meter) will win a cash prize of $100.  Now, you know this means the film with the most supporters present at the festival is often the winner (not always) but the more people who come to watch these great films the more we all win.  New this year, though, we will have a formal judging panel convene the weekend before the festival and pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.  These awards will be presented during the festival.

We are proud of our local filmmaking community.  Filmmaking takes commitment and hard work, creativity and perseverance, team work, organization and people skills.  Making short films takes a special commitment - to the story and to the audience. Our filmmakers range from highly skilled to beginning filmmakers who are seeking to tell a visual story in a compelling format.  Whether comedy, drama, documentary, music video, science fiction, horror, romance, informational, or other forms, you'll see and enjoy a great festival and get to meet many of the filmmakers.
If you have a short film you'd like to submit, please contact me immediately.  We can consider late entries, but we need to get them in as soon as possible. The entry form and instructions can be found on the Film Co-op website at www.filmcoop.org

Please join us, Oct 22 at 7 pm for a great evening of great short films.

p.s. And don't forget, if you are interested in how to make your own short film or are interested in helping others do so, the Film Co-op has a monthly workshop which meets the first Sunday of each month in my studio at the Flying Monkey.  Our next meeting is this Sunday, Oct 3 at 2pm.  The focus of this months workshop? "The Amateur's Guide to No Budget Filmmaking."  This two hour workshop will present the basics of filmmaking from finding as story, developing it in script form, planning, shooting and editing you film.  The focus of this workshop is how to accomplish all this using the video camera you probably already have and items you can find around the house to give your film a more professional look.  This workshop is open to the public and presented as a community service by the Alabama Filmmakers Co-op and your truly. (This is the same workshop I am presenting at the Mississippi International Film Festival in Jackson MS on Oct 30 and presented at Roger Ebert's Film Festival last spring)

If you need any additional information please feel free to contact me via e-mail or call me at the number shown below.  And Please share this e-mail with friends and family who may be interested in attending the festival or a workshop.

Best wishes,
Don
