DC arts funding has taken two massive hits recently. Funding for the National Capital Arts and Cultural Affairs program was recently cut from 9.5 million to 1 million. Check out the arts petition to Mayor Gray, and forward it to your friends: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/support-art-in-dc/
