Filling the Gap: Arts Education Today
Wednesday, December 8, 2010, 6:00-7:30pm
Source Black Box, 1835 14th Street NW (U Street)
As the arts sector continues to fight for school-based arts education opportunities for children and youth, innovative arts organizations have stepped into the void to offer high quality arts participation and appreciation opportunities for young people. In particular, the Washington, D.C. area features a number of organizations which serve students both inside and outside of the classroom and stretch the traditional art forms in new and engaging ways. Join us as we explore three D.C organizations that provide excellent programs and opportunities for area children and youth, see where they fit in the evolving curricular and extracurricular arts education landscape, and what we can do as individuals and as a sector to support arts education opportunities for all students.

Panelists:
Giani Clarkson, Company Manager, Step Afrika
Polly Thibodeau, Director of Development, Joy of Motion Dance Center
Mazi Mutafa, Executive Director, Words, Beats & Life, Inc.

NEWS
Things you should know about us.

Rebranding
In March 2010, the Forum for Emerging Arts Professionals changed its name to Emerging Arts Leaders DC. This aligns us with the national Emerging Leaders network and allows us to be more immediately accessible to newcomers to the group. You'll notice that we've also adopted a new logo to go along with this name change. We'll be using both names and logos over the next few months as we make this transition, but please don't be confused - we are still the same group!
