How do you search for the meaning of life when life gets in the way?

I have been fretting over how I am going to focus on my search. What
with work, the mortgage, the car and all the other crap I have to take
care of where do I find the time?
How would this be: I devote one year of my life to making a million
dollars. After that year is up and the million is in my pocket I will
be free to go to the vatican, Machu Picchu, Tibet and anywhere else my
quest takes me. I will have the freedom to focus on the search.

Sound like a dream? Maybe; but is there any other quest as worthy? Or
as important?

Should I go back to just worrying about the mortgage and live the
treadmill that has been carefully plotted out for me?
