Yale, the Gutenberg, and Uncle Sid - Many thanks to Shawn and Jeremy for hosting these couple days in New Haven. Along with hikes around town and up East Rock, Yale provided the opportunity to see one of the first books ever printed - a Gutenberg Bible. As any self
respecting singer/songwriter would, I had great plans for writing a
song or two based on whatever page the ancient bible was open to in the
Rare Books library (see pic). Of course those plans were squashed when
I realized that not only could I not read the bible, but I couldn't
even determine what language it was actually printed in! (It's
Latin...I think) So instead I've revised my plans to write a song or
two about Steve Guttenberg - star of such films as Three Men and A
Baby and Short Circuit. Just wait, they are gonna be
spectacular. Then last night we headed over to the Hamden neighborhood to The Space to play a few songs at their open mic. It was an interesting evening of...(polite cough)...music. Stand out groups included: Uncle Sid who performed a rousing number composed of canned music from his Yamaha keyboard (complete with fills and automatic variations) and lyrics about monkeys who don't like the idea of humans as their progeny; and Midnight Dave and the PWE - spoken word artists with a rock and roll, shall we say, sensitivity. But definitely a night that captured the very essence of open mic-ness. Off today for Boston - variety show tonight and house concert on Friday. See you all there!
