St. Patty's Day at the Sigma Theta
Epsilon house (click) Nice group came out to hear some tunes in Ada, OH - hotbed of the midwestern independent music scene! Only forgot the lyrics to one song - I have been cutting back on the aspartame. And while the local 90's inspired rockers didn't open the show, they hung around for some jammin'. Only wish I hadn't left the accordion at home! Luckily in this photo it looks like I'm actually playing
something. Special thanks to Ang (deputized road manager) and her
roomates for the mondo-olive pizza dinner and laughs. On the ride back to D-Town listened to Derek Webb's The House Show and realized that I was skipping through the cd to all the parts where Derek talks theology. One line hit me last night, in light of my time with the Christian brothers of Sigma Theta Epsilon. Derek said, "If you separate the gospel from its own necessary call to live in community - you've destroyed it. It isn't the Gospel of Jesus Christ anymore." That and Derek's continual reminder that Christianity is simply not "Safe for the Whole Family" (just ask the early Christian martyrs) gives me hope that this life in Christ that we pledge together really will mean something for the world. We're not just another nice club of do-gooders. Rather we are the very agents of God's justice, mercy, beauty, and love participating in the salvation of all creation through Jesus Christ. Not exactly green beer and plastic bowler hat thoughts - but hey, they got me through another nighttime drive through OH.
