While working with Lisa Gwyther at the Duke Family Support Program I have learned about the most wonderful websites. One I want to recommend to you is www.inspirelist.com. In their own words “Inspire strives to provide its readers with crisp, thought provoking quotations and ideas that will help people improve their lives and the lives of those around them.”
Visit www.inspirelist.com to view sample quotations and to subscribe to Inspire’s free daily inspirational e-mail.
One of Inspire’s quotes sums up my experience while in California at the Fearless Caregiver Conference last week:
“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”
– Helen Keller
At the conference, Bonnie DeLaCruz received The 2005 Los Angeles Community Fearless Caregiver Award. When Bonnie came to California she was raising her nieces and nephews. As she had no legal rights to these children, they were taken away from her. Instead of becoming despondent she fought to get them back and gave them the loving home they otherwise wouldn’t have had. Further, she founded a community agency to provide assistance to “Kinship Caregivers” like herself.
Bonnie’s was just one of the many inspirational stories I heard while in California. I know there are many sources of inspiration within your own community and likely in your own home. Please continue to inspire others through the care that you provide. And refresh yourself with daily inspiration from Inspirelist and the examples of others. (See P.S.)
Linking you with helpful caregiving resources
and wishing you a wonderful week.

P.S. Receiving the 2005 Caregiver Friendly Award for The Portable Caregiver at The Fearless Caregiver Conference was a tremendous honor. I had a chance to speak briefly to the conference assembly after receiving the award. I dedicated the award to my late Grandmother Kern who was a constant source of support and inspiration and kept me motivated by saying “You need to finish this book before I die!” While she passed away before the final product rolled off the printer, she did see the near final proof and I like to think that she can still see how people are helped by it today.
