4-part mixdown:
1 - Volbox [rock pop] - 'Infinito' (Independiente) - will probably
remind English listeners of the whole bunch of rock/pop musicians of
the past couple of years
2 - Maquiladora [indie rock] - 'Kiss Over' (Darla) - a slow melody,
somewhere between a ballad and a lullaby
3 - Dr Jeckill [punk rock pop] - 'Melancolia' (Ramper Records) - a
guitar composition, with a chorus perhaps a bit too cheerful
4 - Ohtli [rock alternativo] - 'Que pena' (The Box Records) - a rather
traditional song, with solid melody, good lyrics, and great vocals.
The closing song for the programme was Ohtli, 'Que pena'.
The compositions come from a CD 'Rolitas de la frontera', compiled by
the Disco Bulbo record label. The CD that celebrates 'diversity'
features 15 tracks from 12 artists from Tijuana and 3 from San Diego,
the tracks ranging from exotic Spanish rap, through rock, to metal and
electronic music. The genres for the tracks I used in the mixdown are
mentioned in the brackets, and yes, the mixdown doesn't include rap,
despite its popularity. The reason is simple: I don't know any Spanish,
and it's hell on Earth to edit English rap, let alone the one in the
language you don't understand. But I will definitely feature a rap
track in one of the programmes - it is going to be 'Nuestro Orgullo' by
Legion Marvel.
