When we ride, we increase our heart rate, and increase blood flow
throughout the body! A nice leisurely ride will burn off about 600-800
calories an hour! The best thing about riding is the fact that it's
LOW IMPACT! This means it won't stress your knee joints like walking or
running will. If I get my heart rate up around 140 and hold it there,
I'm increasing my cardiac health and I can now get my heart rate up to
170 with no trace of ARRYTHMIA! My at rest heart rate is now averaging
64-70. Not bad for a man who 8 months ago had an at rest HR of 109 and
suffered chest pain if he walked more than 50 feet! Granted, my weight
loss has a great deal to do with this as well, but the cycling is a
major contributor to my increase in capability. Do I recommend it? I
would think the answer to that is obvious! A resounding yes! It doesn't
matter if you ride a cheap WalMart bike or buy one from your local bike
shop for thousands of dollars, the end result is the same! You get out
and ride and work that heart and lungs and strengthen your body! Get
out there and pedal, get your life moving in a positive direction.
