I copied this from agr - Shava_X posted it there:

This was sent to me by a friend in Austin, TX :

Several days ago, a woman in Austin was attacked and raped in the
Hyde
Park area of Austin. The police have not yet publicised the attack.
She
attempting to get the word out about the attack so the perpetrator can
be
caught, and others will not be attacked.
The following is Her account of the events ->

"I was attacked late Friday/early Saturday morning on Aug 1st/2nd.

I work at a music venue downtown and don't get off work until very
late-2:30-3am. I live at 44th and Ave A at the Retreat Apts.

After I get home from work, I usually will walk to the Walgreens on
45th
and Guadalupe for cigarettes or ice cream, needed toiletries, etc.
This
is something I do just about every night at this time. Although I
consider this neighborhood to be relatively safe, I always carry my
cell
phone on me and leave my purse at home. (something I got into the
habit
of doing while living in NYC as well as Philadelphia for obvious
reasons). I usually am more alert to my surroundings at this time of
night as well.

I was walking back to my house from the Walgreens, by way of Ave A,
talking to a friend on my cell, not paying as close attention as I
probably should have. I heard someone's footsteps behind me.

I turned around and there was a Hispanic male with a separate white
t-
shirt that covered his nose and mouth standing about 4ft away from me
and
getting closer.

I alerted to him that I had someone on the phone and told my friend
to
call 911 which, unfortunately, my friend did not hear because I think
I
accidentally disconnected the phone in my frenzy. As soon as the
numbers
911 came out of my mouth, I was struck with something and knocked
out.

When I came to, the man was on top me - raping me.

He still had the white t-shirt over his face soiled with my blood.

I either passed out again or got knocked out again because I don't
remember him finishing what he was doing or leaving the scene.

I somehow got up and walked back to the Walgreens where miraculously,
an
ambulance was parked from a prior call to that establishment. Mind
you, I
do not remember getting up and walking back there -- I had suffered a
severe concussion and I guess my survival instincts had taken over and
I
guess I knew that I could get help there.

I was taken to the hospital, treated and went through the standard
medical rape procedure (DNA extraction, pelvic exam, pictures,
questioning, -- the whole nine).

I was told, "I want you know that the detectives are doing everything
in
their power to find this guy but have not been given the okay to
submit
this assault to the media from their bosses at this time”.

This infuriates me because this could happen again to someone else!!
Hyde
Park is filled with single women who do walk everywhere at all times
of
the evening, leave their doors and windows open, thinking that this
neighborhood is relatively safe and liberal. That’s not the case
anymore.

Just last week my friend's car got stolen right across the street
from
Shipe Park AND on 44th and Duval, a man fitting the description of my
assailant was caught peeping into someone's window!
Which leads me to the description of the man who raped me:

young Hispanic male

20-30 yrs of age

brownish eyes

short black spiky hair

5'8"-5'11"

medium to stocky build

wearing a white t-shirt, dark pants like long shorts with a separate
white t-shirt placed over his face.

If you see anyone fitting this description and carrying an extra
shirt
around with them, call the police!!

I love this neighborhood and REFUSE to move because of this scumbag.
I
want him to be caught and until the APD gets their shit together in
handling this properly, we ALL must taken action and keep our eyes
open
so NO ONE else is violated in such a horrible way.

For the sake of human lives and this awesome community that is
HydePark,
please send this out....

I am also putting up fliers throughout the neighborhood and my
landlady,
who runs quite a few complexes in this area, is putting some out as
well.
