hey there does anyone know the news about this thing? i felt like we
were all teased with this news of a 9 cd box set of 13th floor
elevators stuff then poof....no one speaks a word about it. i have
tried to contact charly and it seems impossible to even attempt.
anything else that can be added to this? i know i am new to this
group but this was the reason i joined...

also, i have tried in the past to get in touch with some one in the
roky erickson camp because back in the mid nineties some one gave me
a box full of 1/4 inch tape reels with personal live recordings of
the 13th floor elevators, red krayola and such... i only listen to
about 3 of the 20+ tapes that i was given (they are about 4 hours in
length each!!!) but when i left the country i tucked these away at my
parents house in waco and then only tired to get in touch with some
in 2000 (i tried through the rollins book company since he had just
published a book of lyrics around that time)...no one seemed
interested... on the tapes there were shows that were from some
place in houston and i think it was some guy that was involved with
artist international because he said the didn't even own a machine
that would play them anymore and that he was hired to record these
shows for a record label....they never even came and retrieved
them...anyway, don't know what else is on them. he said that he
started working in 67 and stopped tapping in 69 or 70...so once i got
these tapes (he just gave them to me since i was such an elevators
freak at the time and we lived in the same area next to the brazos
river/lake waco) but i don't even know how to start to get them to
the right person... i have always felt that since roky seemed to get
shafted on so much in the past that maybe i could get these to him
and he could personally figure what to do...anyway, maybe i can get
help in the right direction...

anyway, what about that box set? i am really itching to find out
about that....

My name is Kiloh. I run the Texas Psych Group and the Roky CD Club.
Here is the Roky CD Club Discography:
http://groups.google.com/group/Texas-P/web/roky-cd-club-discography?hl=en

I'd be interested in taking a look at that box of tapes. We can
restore them and put them out to the fans on the Roky CD Club.

I'm the real deal, highest quality and never made a dime from this;
never took a dime from Roky. I'm the fan's friend.

Please get back with me.

Ask anybody on this list, I'm the guy you want to get with. I'll spiff
this stuff up and blow it out for the fans.

seriously, man - Kiloh is *totally* the one you want to talk to about
dealing with these - you have totally stumbled into the exact right
place for taking care of these tapes.

And like he says, anyone on this list will vouch for him.

It will be a total service to the fans, and to Roky himself, who I
would venture to guess would have no idea what to do with them except
let folks who would never let them out into the public have them. And
that would be the worst disservice to him possible.

If you haven't already, I would urge you to take a listen to some of the material Kiloh's CD club has already released to the fans. The quality is unsurpassed. Any recordings that come into the club's hands are treated with the care and respect they deserve, as are the donors.

Welcome to the group John, you definitely came to the right place!

What Kiloh and everybody else said is true, the CD Club gets it right
every time, there's apparently no one else around that can or will do
what the club can do.
New live Elevators!! Holy Sh**** !!!!
Please do talk with Kiloh, I think you'll be satisfied.

As for the "9-disc boxset," we were just musing over that recently.
It was supposed to be out in September wasn't it? Now I've seen the
carrot dangling from "February 2009," but I imagine (if there's really
even anything in it we don't already have) it's probably destined to
remain on what we affectionately refer to around here as "The Porch."

Anyway, talk with Kiloh and keep us posted!

Wow, your old tapes may be more of a revelation than the box set.

Charly will do a shoddy job on the 13thFE guaranteed. So will any
company.

Talk to Kiloh. He can arrange shipping, transfer, preservation.

I am dying to know more about this. Dying.

the last i listened to the tapes was back about 10 years ago (maybe
more) when i first got them. i know there was a whole tape of
various elevators shows (lost of the same songs that are on the other
live stuff) but some really blown out sounding amps, lots of echo and
feed back... really exciting sounding stuff from the stuff i
heard...after hearing you're gonna miss me about 10 times i got a
little tired and started spot listening for anything non elevators
(since the guy said that he was working for a.i when he did this and
at the time of getting these my love was red krayola) i found a
couple red krayola sets and whole series of things that did not
register at the time ( i wasn't aware of bubble puppy nor the golden
dawn, yesterday children, etc....). at the time i was ready to
transfer the tapes to cd i had bought a component cd burner and just
before i was going to texas to get the tapes i had a fire at my
house in long beach (where i lived at the time)...needless to say i
forgot about the tapes for a while and since i have moved to humboldt
the idea of them have entered my mind. i got them at a yard sell
(not purchasing them but given to me) when i was looking for cheap
guitar amps for my band. i came across a guy that had the tapes, and
a painting by the guy who did the cover of the 1st lp. i believe
there are several promo pics of the bands (i know that there is a
13th floor elevators pic [one in front of the bug] and a red krayola
pic [them playing on a porch in the woods] but besides what i knew at
the time about the label (which was limited in a non-internet
world). the tapes are two track 1/4 inch stereo reels and who ever
did the mic placement did a really great job (but the bands back then
were pretty easy to record do to more controlled volume levels)....
the only other thing that i can remember from listening to the tapes
is that you can tell that there is different drummers playing with
them at different dates... i am hoping that john ike is one of them
(sounds like it or some one emulating that style- which was pretty
popular back in the fifties and sixties due to buddy holly's
drummer ] which it all comes back to for texans of that time period
playing rock-n-roll....

i will do my best to set everyone up with all the audio/ pics/ etc
when i go to my folks this december... infact i just sent a message
to my mother to take a look to find that box at her house...
now that i know a little more about artist international i hope that
the box contains many of their artists... wish i could remember the
name of the guy that gave them to me. at the time he was just
excited to meet some one that from that area (it was around waco
where i was staying at the time) that was so into that type of music,
etc... he claimed that he hadn't heard the tapes since he first
recorded them and that he wasn't that into the music (just a p.r.
guy/ recording engineer that met lelan rogers (and kenny) back in
houston and did work for them.... he said the only thing he had in
common with any of those groups was that they were all fans of lord
buckly (the comic)...that is all i can remember besides the fact that
the guy had a great house on the brazos river near meridian, tx
(north of lake waco).

if i can think of anything else i will post it to wet people's
whistle a little more....

Hey John,

Really great to have you onboard here, and I'm sure everyone here is excited
to hear about the tapes you have. Clearly nobody but you has heard these in
decades, if ever.

I thought it worth mentioning that if one of your concerns is that Elevators
members have been getting ripped-off, and you are at all interested in the
opinion of former Elevators drummer Danny Thomas, the Roky CD Club's
releases have done more to make the real stuff available to the real fans
than anyone else in the world.

Though I can't immediately locate the letter Danny sent me a few years back,
I forwarded it to Kiloh, and he posted it to one of the groups, very
possibly the old Yahoo group that got deleted due to false accusations of
copyright infringement, erasing in the process a number of years of utterly
irreplaceable Texas Psych oral history...

Very probably either Kiloh or one of the other group members still has a
copy they could post here, and I'm also sure that someone could put you in
touch directly with Danny. George Kinney, a founding member of The Golden
Dawn, and a good friend for many many years with Roky, will also tell you
that Kiloh is a good guy, and that the Roky CD Club has the right stuff.

Best regards,

Clay

My guess is that this 3-cd set of IA material is all they could muster
from it...

This 3 disc set has been out since the sping of this year. Can't remember if
the "everything box" had been mentioned at that time. This 3 CD seems to be
an expanded version of "Epitaph For A Legend" and the "International
Artists Singles Collection" LPs. While "Epitaph..." had some very
interesting material with pretty good sound quality, the "...Singles
Collection" LP had thin and muffled sound. Surface noise from the original
singles was evident on many of the tracks. In the case of the Endle St.
Cloud In the Rain single, it is notable that the single is off-center. By
the end of the track, the "wow" and pitch change is enough to make one
seasick.

I wondered the same thing myself, so I did a search on google for the
upcoming boxset. Turns out it's going to be out in february 2009, and
mail order only.
Has anybody else heard anything about this?
