FESTIVAL to FOSTER LOVE of READING and CROSS-CULTURAL APPRECIATION

Record Crowds Expected at 7th Annual Plano International Festival

October 1, 2011, Haggard Park, Plano

Applications for Sponsors, Booth Participants, Performers and Volunteers Being Accepted

[Plano, Texas; August 1, 2011]  Organizers of the Plano International Festival are preparing to welcome 15,000 visitors to the 2011 event, set for Saturday, October 1, in downtown Plano’s Haggard Park. Now in its seventh year, the Festival will once again celebrate Plano’s rich tapestry of cultures through multicultural music and dance performances, cultural displays, international cuisine, children’s activities, a Parade of Flags, a naturalization ceremony, a Multicultural Art Exhibit and more.

“This is the only event in Plano that brings all cultures together in one day,” stated Festival president Graciela Katzer. “It’s a great opportunity for local cultural groups to share the beauty of their culture with everyone in Plano.”

This free, family friendly event has grown from year to year in attendance and scope of attractions. Last year’s successful debut of Reading Around the World, a storytelling tent with local authors, will return with more authors and story times. “Reading Around the World was a great success last year,” continued Ms. Katzer. “So this year, we’re adding more authors in a bigger space. We want to help foster a love of reading by exposing kids to stories they may otherwise never hear.” Reading Around the World will be held in partnership with Barnes and Noble.

Applications are currently being accepted for Festival sponsors, the cultural booth area, on-stage performers and volunteers. Application forms and details can be found at www.planointernationalfestival.org. Deadline is Aug. 20.

The Plano International Festival takes visitors on a tour of the world right in downtown Plano. Attendees can witness new citizens being sworn in during a naturalization ceremony, watch multicultural music and dance performances, feast on ethnic cuisine, view cultural displays, and make crafts and play games in the children’s workshop area, all while learning about the diverse cultures of the community. Admission and parking are free.
