[July 28, 2011; Plano, TX] In anticipation of the largest cultural festival in Plano, the Plano Multi-Cultural Outreach Roundtable (MCOR) has partnered with the Plano International Festival to host MCOR’s fifth annual Celebrate Our World Leadership Reception on Tuesday August 16, 2011, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Center for American and International Law, 5201 Democracy Drive, Plano 75024. MCOR invites corporate leaders, government officials and community leadership to come together to celebrate Plano’s diversity as well as explore how leaders can work together to support community unity in Plano.

City of Plano senior planner Steve Sims will speak about changing demographics in Plano and address how they are affecting voting patterns, city planning and other important areas during the event’s panel discussion. Other panelists include Timothy Bray from the UT Dallas Bruton Center; Eric Chen, owner of Asia World Market; and Fire Chief Hugo Esparza as moderator. Speakers from MCOR will review the group’s mission, recent successes and vision for the future.

Supporting sponsors are the Center for American and International Law and H-E-B, who for the last five years have supported Plano’s multicultural efforts. This event is also sponsored by, InTouch Credit Union, Holiday Inn Express, Market Street/United Supermarkets, New England Financial, and EcoDallas. The MCOR reception was founded as a private event to precede the Plano International Festival. MCOR’s mission is to partner with Plano City Council and the citizens of Plano to encourage understanding of and participation in the government process and the needs and desires of its diverse citizens.

The Plano International Festival was conceived by (MCOR) in 2005 to showcase and celebrate the many cultures represented by the people of Plano. It is designed to promote awareness of cultural diversity and facilitate communication between all cultural groups in the community. It also serves to advance Plano’s visibility and standing as an international city. The Plano International Festival is sponsored by the Plano International Festival Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Organizers of the Plano International Festival are preparing to welcome 15,000 visitors to the 2011 event, set for Saturday, October 1, in downtown Plano’s Haggard Park. Now in its seventh year, the Festival will once again celebrate Plano’s rich tapestry of cultures through multicultural music and dance performances, cultural displays, international cuisine, children’s activities, a Parade of Flags, a naturalization ceremony, a Multicultural Art Exhibit and more.

This free, family friendly event has grown from year to year in attendance and scope of attractions. Last year’s successful debut of Reading Around the World, a storytelling tent with local authors, will return with more authors and story times. “Reading Around the World was a great success last year,” continued Ms. Katzer. “So this year, we’re adding more authors in a bigger space. We want to help foster a love of reading by exposing kids to stories they may otherwise never hear.” Reading Around the World will be held in partnership with Barnes and Noble.

Applications are currently being accepted for Festival sponsors, the cultural booth area, on-stage performers and volunteers. Application forms and details can be found at www.planointernationalfestival.org. Deadline is Aug. 20.
