PRIVATE SPACE EXPLORER ANOUSHEH ANSARI TO SPEAK AT
PLANO INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

Saturday, October 1, 11:00 am – 5:00pm
Haggard Park, 15th & Ave. H, downtown Plano

[September 26, 2011; Plano, TX] The world’s first female private space explorer will speak at the upcoming Plano International Festival. In 2006, Anousheh Ansari captured headlines around the world when she became the first female and fourth-ever private space explorer. She is also the first astronaut of Iranian descent.

Ms. Ansari will address a group of fifty candidates for naturalization during the opening festivities of the Plano International Festival on Saturday, October 1. “Every year, we invite a prominent Plano resident who also happens to be a naturalized citizen to speak at our naturalization ceremony,” stated ceremony coordinator T.J. Johnson. “Our speakers share wonderful and encouraging stories of their journey to the American dream, and Ms. Ansari is a glowing example of the unlimited possibilities when you reach high for your own American dream.”

In addition to being an astronaut, Ms. Ansari is a serial entrepreneur who co-founded Prodea Systems and Telecom Technologies, Inc. She is a member of the X Prize Foundation’s Vision Circle, as well as its Board of Trustees. She is a life member in the Association of Space Explorers and on the advisory board of the Teacher’s in Space project. She has received multiple honors, including the World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, the Working Woman’s National Entrepreneurial Excellence Award, George Mason University’s Entrepreneurial Excellence Award, George Washington University’s Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Southwest Region. While under her leadership, Telecom Technologies earned recognition as one of Inc. magazine’s 500 fastest-growing companies and Deloitte & Touche’s Fast 500 technology companies.

Ms. Ansari currently works to enable social entrepreneurs to bring about radical change globally, with organizations such as X Prize and ASHOKA.
