Electricity Grid Vulnerable

Numerous people have asked questions about the USA electricity grid which actually includes all of Canada and Baja California.  The attached NERC www.nerc.com map is a high level and simplified version of our electricity grid.  There were numerous reasons why the grid was designed as shown; but now more off grid self generation is needed to improve our electricity security; since it is essential to our current way of life, economy, and defense.  One way to encourage off grid electricity generation is to allow smaller generation systems to sell electricity back to the grid which is called "net metering" see attachment.  The break even point is about 65% of the electricity purchase rates, and the timing for sales is important since there are peak load periods, so a sliding scale based on when the electricity is generated would be beneficial.
