Effective
Monday, May 4, 2026, the Tennessee Firefighting Commission will revert to the prerequisite verification processes that were in place
before the partial federal government shutdown began.
During the shutdown, the Commission implemented a workaround allowing Tennessee firefighters the opportunity to
sit for testing events under the requirement that they would have to submit course completion certificates for respective FEMA ICS courses that served as certification prerequisites.
On April 16, 2026, FEMA restored access to its independent study website. All ICS courses can now be completed
by visiting this
site.
Looking ahead to May 4, 2026, departments can clear any backlog of firefighters who were impacted by the website's
outage as a result of the partial government shutdown.
