Hey Cyclists,
First and foremost, I want to send out a really big "thank you" to those of you in Team Roadkill, WOW, and Team Army who volunteered to help out with the annual Fort Hood Challenge State Championship Races last weekend. I know it meant a great deal to not only the organizers of the event, but to the racers as well. Next, an apology on my part for not being there. A persistent family issue kept me out of two for the past two weekends. It looks, too, that those of you who made the Waco Wild West had a great time and represented the central Texas cycling community well. Here's what's up for this weekend:
Saturday, October 4 -- Wheels will roll at 8:30 a.m. from the rear parking lot of the Kempner Brick Oven for the 36-mile out-and-back to Watson. This is a great ride for experienced riders as well as newbies. Because it is an out-and-back, you can ride virtually any distance you like. In fact, you can add several more miles from Watson if you like. To get to the start, take US 190 west to Kempner. The Brick Oven will be on the right. If you want to avoid one of the speeding tickets the local police officer likes to hand out, be sure to observe the 45-mph speed limit in town. Coffee and carbs at 7:15 in the Brick Oven. The Brick will also be the site of post-ride refreshment.
Also Saturday: The Bike Out Hunger Ride out of Baylor University in Waco
offers a unique experience, a 200 kilometer (125 mile) fully supported (by The Bear Mountain) ride from Waco to Austin. The route is a great, safe, country road experience with stocked stretch points and rolling SAG. Alternate routes include 20-mile, 40-mile and 60-mile out-and-back from Baylor University as well as a 25-mile meet-up ride at Andice General Store for Austin locals to join and an out-and-back 50-mile meet up ride from the soon-to-be-named shop to the Andice General Store and back. More info is available on the event website, www.outhunger.org
See you Saturday,
David
