Hey Cyclists --

First, I want to thank all of you who volunteered as lead and wheel vehicle drivers for the State Championship Races on Fort Hood last Saturday and Sunday.  I hope next year, race organizers won't schedule the event against the Waco Wild West, one of my favorite T-shirt rides.  But now down to business...the Saturday ride.

Saturday, Oct. 5:  Wheels will roll at 8 a.m. from the parking area behind the Kempner Brick Oven.  We'll head out for the River Road, and the distance options it offers (Oakalla and back, 23 miles; Watson and back 36 miles; or anything in between).  Coffee and carbs at the Brick Oven at 7:15.  I will have the TRK kits with me so this would be a could opportunity to pick your stuff up.  NOTE:  A look at the weather forecast for Saturday indicates that there is a 40 percent chance of rain.  All TRK rides are on a weather-permitting basis.  If it's raining, we ain't riding.  However, I hope to see you in Kempner.  For you newbies, the Brick Oven is located on the north side of Hwy. 190 about 8 miles west of Copperas Cove.

Saturday Oct. 12:  Bud's Ride:  Some of the luckier ones of us helped Bud Valdez scout out a ride on the rural roads of Bell County back in May.  The high point of the tour was a burger lunch in the thriving community of Ratibor (yes, Virginia, there IS a Ratibor).  Here are the details per an email from Bud: "Estimated distance will be about 47.71 miles, starting at 0800 hrs from the Mayborn Center (exit 303B, I35 North) in Temple.  It will be an opportunity to see some of the roads in East Bell County, with a planned stop again at the Ratibor grill for burgers on the way in.  It will  be a NO DROP ride, moderate pace and with several opportunities for regrouping and at least one opportunity for fluid replenishment. I also plan on extending this opportunity to the WOW and Team Army."

See you on the road,
David
