Hey Cyclists -- Team Roadkill, such as we are, has been invited to participate on the Women On Wheels (WOW) fifth anniversary ride and party Saturday. So, accordingly, that is the "official" Saturday ride.  Here's the info:

Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014 -- (NOTE THE CHANGE IN START TIME)  The WOW anniversary ride and party gets underway Saturday at the Kempner Brick Oven.  Wheels roll for the ride at 4 p.m. -- that's right, 4 p.m. for the River Road-Watson out-and-back.  The party will follow in the Brick Oven's Bierstube (dutch treat German cuisine, beer and wine).  No RSVP is necessary if you're just doing the ride; however if you want to stay for the festivities, you'll need to RSVP ASAP to Colleen Isdale at collee...@embarqmail.com.  Total ride distance is 36 miles.  Shorter options are possible, but you know the drill.  In case you've never been there, the Brick is 8 miles west of Copperas Cove on Hwy. 190.  So sleep in Saturday and then join our WOW friends.

ALSO -- Don't forget (weather permitting) Randy's Tuesday-Thursday training rides.  They start at 6 p.m. at Halstead Elementary School on N. Main Street in Copperas Cove.  Everyone is welcome.

AND -- Some of us are going to do the Conquer the Coast ride in Corpus Christi Saturday.  Also Saturday is the annual Fort Davis Cyclefest.  Info on both rides -- both some fair distance away from home -- is available at www.wheelbrothers.com.  Both are great rides.

COMING UP: Volunteers are desperately needed to drive lead a wheel vehicles for the annual Fort Hood Challenge State Championship Road Races Sept. 27 and 28 on Fort Hood.  PLEASE consider giving up a little of your cycling time to help out.  This is the best way I know of, by the way, to see top-notch bicycle racers in action on one of the most challenging courses in the southwest.  Call Liz at the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce, 547-7571, if you can help either day.  I know this is a lot to ask in view of the fact that the Waco Wild West 100 is also scheduled for Sept. 27.

--The Waco Wild West 100.  A nice, well-supported ride with a variety of routes to all types of cyclists.  See www.wheelbrothers.com for all the info.

A NOTE OF THANKS…to Herb Gately for hosting and setting up the Saturday ride Sept. 6.  Thanks, Herb.

See y'all on the road somewhere, folks.

-- David
