I’m not even going to try to compete with Barb Wheeler with all the clever spins on the players’ names.  GOOD JOB, BARB!

The Freshmen 6 went out went out with a bang tonight. They beat Lafayette and Henry Clay in 2 game matches. One of the keys tonight was Janet Jones, who got out on the court with Coach Emily to help keep the girls warmed up between matches.( Lexington Catholic needed 3 games to beat Henry Clay, so we had a break )   For Janet’s extra effort as a parent, she gets the final freshman CREEKY award.

It really was a great season in terms of playing time for the Freshmen 6 even though it started out with weaker competition. On the way home tonight,  we divided the season up into the following sections:

  • Regular Season: 8-1 ( only loss was to Lafayette )
  • Freshman League: 4-2 ( both losses were to Dunbar )
  • Woodford County JV Scrimmage: 1-0

Since the girls really only lost matches to Lafayette and Dunbar, you have to look at the individual records against those teams:

  • Lafayette: 2-1 ( 2 wins in Freshman League, 1 loss in Regular Season )
  • Dunbar: 1-2 ( 1 win in Regular Season, 2 losses in Freshman League )

Here are the pictures from tonight:
Final Game against Henry Clay

Carmen really wanted a chance to play Dunbar or Catholic tonight, but we ended up playing Henry Clay for the fourth time.

Next year, the competition will be much steeper at the JV level with a few tournaments.

Well Done Ladies!  Well Done!  City competition is the toughest competition that we face (other than Louisville) and you have done an awesome job in the city!  I know it had to be hard at times playing with only six, but it has made you such a strong team.  13 wins and only 3 losses . . . that is amazing!  What a record!

Maybe a few CREEKY'S . . . Kevin has inspired me.

CARMEN EBY gets the "IT WASN'T EASY . . . IT WAS EBY" AWARD  Serves, Digs, Hits.  You did it all!  Well done, Carmen!  Well done!

RACHEL JONES gets the "I'VE GOT THE VOLLEYBALL JONES" AWARD.  You young'ens probably don't remember the song Basketball Jones, the final lyrics apply to Rachel . . . "I'm, I'm bad as King Kong, gimme the ball I'm hot, I'm hot as..., I'm hot as..., I'm hot as... uh Uh, uh, uh, uh . . ."  Block, Hit, Serve . . . she is HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!!

AMBER ROSE gets the "MY WILD COMMODORE ROSE" AWARD.  Again, the song is My Wild IRISH Rose, and while Amber may very well be Irish, I'm glad she's a commodore and not . . . let's say a bulldog or a general.  Commodores outrank generals anyway, right?  Amber was wild on that court!  Awesome hits, that great little flicky  serve, digs!  Again, Awesome job Amber!

CASEY BOBEL gets the . . . ya'll think BOBEL is easy? . . .  "FIREWORKS" AWARD.  The Bobelalbum (yes there is such a thing) contains among other things 22 watercolors which are depicted as "de expozitia de arta" which I translate as an explosion of art (but I can't read German).  Casey was a volleyball explosion on the court!  Explosive serves, explosive hits and digs!  EXPLOSIVE!!!!!!!  DANGEROUS!!!!!  Well done, Casey!  Well done!

The last two actually go together and were saved for last for a purpose . . .

CASEY SISK gets the "KIS(K) OF DEATH AWARD."  Nobody's died from the touch of her lips, but the touch of her hands . . . Casey could do it all . . . play middle, play outside, pass, set. No worries!  Well done!  Casey!   ((Reminds me of a few other girls I know).  With Casey on the court the other teams might as well call for a . . .

"SLOW MOVIN' HURST" AWARD goes to MEGAN HURST.  Megan was anything but slow movin', but she led her team in carrying a lot of teams to their demise!  Set, hit, pass, it really didn't matter . . . our little undertaker undertook it all and got the job done!  Well done Megan!

Well done to the whole Freshman team!  Great Season!  Great things to come!
