Using Tasker to run Google Home Automation (Routine)

If I remember correctly this used to be possible using AutoVoice. Is there a method to do this currently?

If you can run the Google Home routine on the phone app, you can use AutoInput to simulate the touch screen presses to do so.  Otherwise, I don't know of any direct way to create a trigger in Tasker that Google Home routines will activate from.  Virtual devices work decently with triggering Alexa routines, just not Google Home.
