OK, here are the names I have so far:

* Don Uy
* Ole Oleson
* Stu Oleson
* Elena Mayberry
* Ray Kossman
* Alex Kossman
* Steve Yovino
* Josh DeBerry
* Matt Richardson

If there are any more I should add, please let me know.

When you get to the Festival, go to the Will Call window. Tell them
your name, and that you are there for the Fencing competition. That
should get you tickets for you and a guest. The actual venue will be
in the new section of the site. I'm told there is a gate to that
section that we can take weapons through. This should be off to the
left of the main gate. If you go in the main gate, then you want to
turn immediately to your left, and go across the bridge up into the
"Piper's Glen" If you get lost, ask someone at the gate.

We have the space for demos and such from 12:00, and the competition
starts at 1:00 each day.

Standard uniforms and equipment is acceptable, from experience I can
tell you to make sure you wear good sunblock, and drink lots of water.

One other thing: Please make sure to download and fill out the form
from the Festival website. They might have a few forms there, but
it's best not to rely on them. ;)

TBF at the Renaissance Festival Tournament! Huzzah!

An account of what transpired on Saturday's (4/16/2011) events. (Will
also be posted on Facebook)

On Saturday, Stuart Oleson, Elena Mayberry (the only female fencer of
the day), and Diego Uy represented the Black and Gold standard in the
Novice level. Sometime TBF attendee, James Leavenworth also competed.
Initially in the Novice level, Ole Oleson gamely opted for more
fencing in the Professional level, to seek greater challenges despite
his qualification as a Novice.So it was left to Ole and me to
represent TBF in the Professional category in the Saturday contest.

Under the heat of the blazing sun, over the din of warrior steel,
through dust clouds of combat we would repeatedly see the folks
bearing the TBF patch that stood above the fallen. Despite recent
illness and the blistering heat, TBF Elena the Undaunted was able to
muster through to place 3rd. Diego the Swift used his uncanny sense of
timing and speed to carry him to second place. When the dust settled,
Stuart the Stalwart stood tallest (literally and figuratively) as the
champion of Saturday's contest. In the Professional category, Ole
matched his dueling sword and dagger technique against an unnamed
competitor garbed in black that opted to use is open left hand
gauntlet as his parrying weapon. Our darkly garbed opponent, more
familiar with the use of a 2nd weapon was able to dispatch Ole in the
first round. In the 2nd round, one of our USF friends challenged the
same fencer that dispatched Ole. This time he fenced the USF sportsman
with a sword and dagger combination. This proved to be a prudent
decision as the sport fencer was unable to adjust to the presence of
the parrying dagger of the Black Knight. Almost all of the attacks
from the Sportsman were stymied by the Black Knight's main gauche.
Surviving the first two rounds, it was left to me to face down the man
in Black and avenge Ole's early dismissal. I found him waiting on the
field bearing a large buckler and scabbard in his left hand. Combat
was fierce and closely matched. As expected, he rushed and closed in.
His buckler/scabbard occupying my weapon, I was able to place my main
gauche in front of my throat but he managed to free his weapon enough
to score. Later, I found his weapon arm defenseless to even up the
score. In the final pass, we both found our targets. The adjudicators
deemed the point as mine as it landed (mere) moments before his.
Accepting the judgment, the Fencer in Black and I shook hands.

A fine Saturday for TBF. Each of the Novice and Professional trophies
will be hanging on the walls of a TB Fencer. We showed to the audience
that neither age nor gender is a hindrance in learning to fence. We
showed the other fencers of the area we will stand and fence against
your dagger, your buckler, your modern techniques and your way through
us will not be easy. Sunday promised to hold more heat, more dust,
more sweat and more combatants. Personally, I couldn't wait.
