Here's a reminder that FNF is this Friday! Let me know if you can make it.

We had another FNF Gathering last Friday 8/20 at the Kombat Arts
Institute's new venue. TBFencers Matt Richardson, Ray Kossman and I
were joined by Ryan Wheeler, Jessica Wright and newcomer Alexis (last
name unknown) to create a seeding pool that was six fencers strong.
Ryan Wheeler started out guns blazing to take the top seed after
defeating everyone in the seeding pool. I came second. Ray found third
place seed with a mix of precision arm touches and a powerful attaques
au fer. Matt bade his time at fourth place seed developing his
stymying remise attacks and countertime. Alexis topped Jessica in an
exciting la belle match to avoid last place.

Ryan and I sat out the first round of direct elimination bouts. Alexis
showed signs of improvement against the only southpaw fencer on the
field but was not able to stop Matt from advancing. Jessica started
well against Ray for the first few points until he found his groove
with a strong Parry 2-riposte combination. Ray's victory earned him
the honor of trading touches with me. I was able to advance to the
finals after my DE bout with Ray. The other half of the final-four was
Matt and Ryan. This turned out to be the most exciting bout of the
evening. The point-spread never spanned more than two points
throughout the bout. The first period ended tied at 8 points apiece.
Ryan was able to keep Matt at bay with his keen sense of distance and
powerful counter attacks. Matt always managed to keep the bout close
with astute target selection and precision point control. The lead
position was swapped often with neither fencer taking a commanding
lead. The victory pendulum abruptly stopped at 15-13 points on Matt's
side, earning him the spot in the final bout against me.

As usual Matt and I stayed true to our "No quarter! None offered, none
taken!" mantra. As much as I would be proud to see Matt take the
night's victory, simply giving it to him was out of the question. The
final count was 15-11, with Matt having to wait until next month for
the opportunity to claim the top Friday Night Fighter spot.

(This is my recounting but I'd be happy to hear know thoughts on the
last Friday Night Fights.Any high points that I missed?)
