On Saturday November 22nd LSR has a 107Km Populaire and a 210Km Brevet with a start time of 7:30am from Willow Park.
We are starting a half hour later because there are several issues that everyone must be aware of:
I-30 and I-20 construction. I-30 and I-20 from I-820 to past Aledo Farmer Road has a massive construction project in progress. Most of the entrance and exit ramps are closed. Most of the access roads are closed. Traffic is snaked around all of the work going on. It is a major pain in the bottom, but when it is done the interstate will be four lanes in each direction and there will be new exit and entrance ramps. They promise two lane access roads with get this, pedestrian and bike lanes. All that said, please leave extra time and use some sort of crowd sourced map application like Waze, Google Maps, Tele-Nav, or Apple Maps to get you to the ride start.
Bankhead Drive construction. Bankhead Drive (or Highway) is all torn up on the north side of the road from Centerpoint Road to past FM-5. They are putting in underground utilities and there is mud all over the place. The road is missing in places and in some spots its down to one lane with portable traffic lights. To avoid this mess I have created a special version of the Willow Park Granbury Lollipop and Dinosaur Junior routes. We will take FM-5 all the way from I-20 to Airport Road both on the way out and back. There is a narrow smooth shoulder both ways, but please ride single file. As an added bonus we will take the new southern route back into WIllow Park. Please use the RWGPS route listed below.
I forgot how scenic the eastern several miles of Airport Road is, but there are a few steep hills that some of you might remember from the old days riding from Willow Park. It will be a nostalgic blast from the past. And we get to do it twice!
The turnaround control for the pop is a brand new Casey’s. They have awesome pizza and other food, plus sparkling clean restrooms. The brevet continues to Glen Rose, Tolar, Lipan, and back to Willow Park.
Lights and reflective gear are required for the 210Km brevet. This is a very hilly route and expect to take 11 to 12 hours or more to complete it. Welcome to Parker County. Also because it is not hot outside plan to stop in Glen Rose (54 miles) skipping Granbury, Lipan (another 40 miles) skipping Tolar, and finish in Willow Park (another 40 miles).
After the ride Dana and I are gong to eat dinner at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop right next to the ride start. You are all welcome to join us.
Here are the normal instructions I include.
Pay attention because there are four steps to this email that require some work on your part.
Step 1: Open the attached Waiver PDF for the ride you want to do, fill it out, print it, sign it, scan or photo it, email that to Dan Driscoll
dandri...@me.com and Gary Gottlieb
gary.p....@me.com. Do this no later than 7:00pm the night before the event. Keep the signed paper copy and bring it with you to the ride start.
Step 2: Go to the below URL and load that route into your Wahoo or Garmin if you have one of those.
107Km Pop:
210Km Brevet:
Step 3: We are using the above RWGPS links for these rides. If you want a paper cue sheet email me a request and I will get one to you. Otherwise you can print one from the RWGPS link.
Step 4: Open the attached Parking Map PDF, print it, keep it with you so you know where to park.
This rides will use EPP. Take selfies at all of the controls, or save your receipts, or keep your GPS track, or better yet do two of these or all three. If Dan asks you for your proof of passage be prepared to email the stuff to Dan.
When you finish the ride text your elapsed time and RUSA number to Dan Driscoll..
Please email me to get on the ride list. You must email your waiver to Dan and me before you ride. There are no exceptions to this policy.
RUSA and LSR membership are required for this ride.
Please reply to me and Dan concerning this event off list. I will post any additional details as updates to the original email string.
