Texas Randos,

"You can’t always get what you want", but if you don’t ask, you’ll be likely not to get anything at all…..

WE Texan Randos have so much to be proud of !!!!

We think Brenda Babbieeeee will Galaxy in September, exact date has yet to be determined, but that won’t stop me from thinking about a Celebratory Shindig….

I know it’s a stretch, but wouldn’t it be GRAND, if we could have all the Texas Galaxy Gals show up to the Start or Finish of the 'Brenda Galaxy ride' for a Photo Op?  With Sharon in Portugal and Nancy in Kansas, that might be a Big Ask….. but why not…

I’ve also Bcc’d all the Texas Galaxy boys, just in case there are two or three sets of pictures. You can check out all the Texas Galaxy’s in the spread sheet below.

Lastly but not leastly, I hope we have a good turnout for this special ride, it will be a 100km’ish distance so not excuse……. And as soon as we can predict the date, we’ll share more poop on it.

Randos,

For many of us, real Endurance is not how far you ride in a day or a year, but a LifeTime…..

The RUSA Galaxy Award epitomizes this belief.

When do YOU plan to Galaxy?

The Galaxy Award was created by RUSA #1, Jennifer Wise. Jennifer told me that it was created for the overachieving Texans that lead the way to excessive RUSA riding, back in the early years of RUSA, and the Lone Star on the top of the award, was her gift to us Lone Star Randonneurs, for helping to show what was possible. She may have been pulling my leg, but it sure made me feel proud….

Currently there have been 70 Galaxy Awards Earned, by 61 different RUSA members, for riding 100,000 kms of RUSA Rides, Foreign rides don’t count, so many of these Galaxy Awardees have even more Rando Kms.

8 RUSA membershave earned more than one Galaxy Award, with Gary Gottlieb having earned an amazing 4 Galaxy Award and still going strong. See attached spread sheet for details.

Now I’ll start getting to the point of this email, it’s our Females. 15 Galaxy Awards have been earned by 13 different females, with Dana Pacino and Pam Wright both having earned two each. Of the 13 Females that have earned one or more Galaxy Awards, 8 are now or have been Lone Star Randonneurs. These ladies and their accomplishments bring me more pride than any award I could ever earn. I’ve ridden with them all, a lot, and when the going got tougher than tough, and they stuck it out with a smile, so impressive.

If you’d like to read up on the early history of the Galaxy Gals, here’s a link to an Article in the American Randonneur about it, scroll down to page 8. https://rusa.org/Download/nl/AR_Spring_2016.pdf

Yea, you know it takes me a while to really get to the point….

We'd like to Kongratulate one of our favorite riding buddies, Amy Russell on achieving Galaxy this year!!!!! And less than 7 rides away, Brenda Barnell will be joining the Galaxy Gal Club. I’ve ridden so many K’s with all of these ladies and just can’t say enough good things about this Rando Family of exceptional ladies.

Thank you for allowing me to share my pride,
DanD

Definitely an excellent plan!  Count me in!  Will be a great honor to ride with Brenda as she reaches this stellar goal.

Let me try and knock out the rides and shoot for the end of August.  Why not?  Everyone needs a goal, right??  Ha!
