Thank you Dave! It was good to see you at the start. Congrats on the top 10 finish you rocked it!

I came in the 24th place (out of 49) at 9 pm on Sunday, I was the last finisher of the Showdown. The conditions were tough with slick muddy roads and rain on Friday, but then the sun came out on Saturday and Sunday so the roads dried up. East Texas gravel is mostly sand based so there is more resistance, and the bike rolls much slower especially when loaded with gear. Attached is my finish picture and pics showing the road conditions:

Congratulations to Peter and Dave on finishing the tough ride. The roads look pretty muddy, and it's amazing to see you conquer them with grit and determination. Amazing pictures!
Rest well, recover for a new adventure, and cherish all the memories!

Peter, congrats on the finish!!!! That seemed a little tougher this year than previous years but who knows.

What a ride! Congrats again!

I took 3 hard falls, 8+ hours of ZERO brakes, extreme rash in my bibs that just ultimately started the process of me falling apart out there and giving up a few spots. I have to solve this rash problem as it happens in EVERY SINGLE RACE! Its a bad rash all over my sit bones and other "regions" and it becomes unbearable to sit much less put any power out.

Anyways, beautiful course as always!

Hat’s off to both of you……

Just lining up for an Ass Whooping like that is a BFD…..

Dave come out and do some longer rides with the group, we’ll offer some suggestions, and it’s good saddle time.

Dan,

I would love to come back up for a brevet with LSR! Ill see what I can squeeze in as it's remodel/move time here! We have decided to move to Colorado. I need mountains, open public space, hopefully stop getting hit by cars that avoid prosecution while espousing "law and order" on their facebooks and a chance of scenery. I ride every weekend through refineries. Im tired of it.

Move is happening quite fast as everything was on hold for ETS to finish.

Ill check the LSR calendar and see what I can manage. Could be a fun send off ride.

Hi Dave,

Congrats on your move to Colorado! For ultra endurabce rides, I carry one small pack of Chamois butter per day and it works like a charm (i had 2 at ETS). I also carry spare bike shorts (changed mine for the 3rd day t ES) and it helps to prevent rashes and saddle sores.

We have some new gravel routes that I created in 100 - 200k range:

Let me know when are you available to ride and I will ask Dan to put one of these on the calendar. All of these routes are fast rock-based gravel, very little dirt (I removed some sections that get muddy after rain). My favorites are Wild West Gravel 200 (this one has 100 mi gravel/80%), Gravel Tour of Italy 210k (70% gravel) and the new Gotta Love Gravel route which has 40% gravel. All of these roads are quiet with virtually no traffic and the cars usually stop for a cyclist passing by or pass very slowly. May would be a good time to ride these b/c it  will get hot in summer.

Take care,

Peter
