Join us Saturday, June 6th, for 104k, 216k, or 300k brevets from Italy, Texas (but see the weather note below!)
These are the Jailhouse routes.  The 104k goes from Italy down to Abbott, Texas, and returns via the same route.  The 216k continues from Abbott to Valley Mills and returns.  The 300k continues from Valley Mills to Gatesville and returns.  There are a number of jails/prisons in Gatesville, and that's where the route names come from.  The current 300k routing actually bypasses the prisons, though.
The 300k route is an ACP brevet, which means it qualifies for certain ACP awards but time and mileage credit are based on 300k.  The 216k is a RUSA brevet, so it does not qualify for those ACP awards, but you do get extra time and credit for the extra 16k.

Start location is Exxon Tiger Mart/ Pilot Truck stop at the northwest corner of I-35E and Hwy 34 in Italy, Texas.  Park out behind the Denny's.

Start time is tentatively 7:30 AM.  If you have a preference on start time, let me know, and we may update this.

Lone Star Randonneurs membership is required.  See the LSR website for details.  Please get the form and the money in to Dan prior to the ride start.
RUSA membership is required.  See the RUSA website for details.
Waivers are attached.  Please complete, print, sign, and scan the waiver, and email to both me and to Dan, and bring the original to the ride start.  If you're not sure which distance, you can submit waivers for both or all three and decide at the start.

The 300k does get hillier after Valley Mills, so be prepared for that.
On the 216k, there are no stores between Valley Mills and Abbott, which is 35 miles.  Make sure you have plenty of water before leaving Abbott, as it can get hot and slow out there, and that section has seen its share of suffering through the years.  The 300k has this same gap, but it may be a little cooler when you hit it in later in the day.
At Abbott, there are stores on either side of the freeway, and I prefer the one on the east side that you come to first.

GPS routes are:
300K Route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51377406
This route uses a different turn-around store from the old route.
There was formerly some construction at around Mile 68, but I assume that is all fixed now.

The current long-range forecast for Saturday is "Thunderstorms" with 72% chance of rain, with low of 73 and high of 88, wind from the south at 10 mph.  The rides are officially "on" rain or shine, but obviously, ridership varies.  Hopefully, the forecast will improve, and maybe the "storm" part will be pre-dawn or late in the day.  Regardless, check the forecast right before the ride and be prepared for what you see.  Also beware as the humidity is shown to be fairly high.

We have a couple of riders out of town, a couple out of commission, and I expect pretty limited ridership on any of these.  I will advise who all is riding as the day gets closer and the forecast becomes more clear.  Currently, I am planning to ride the 104k on my touring bike, which will be a bit slower, and that is weather-permitting.

Check back later in the week for updates.
