Hi all,

Time for a fun one!  Jerry Austin has built a 105k from Arlington to Dallas using almost all low traffic roads and bike trails!  Dan and I rode it a while back and I'm still amazed at how much quiet time we had while riding towards downtown Dallas.  Here's the scoop for this....yes.... Rando Scout ride :)
FYI, yes, the populaire route is .8 miles longer than the perm because by starting at Dan's house, we have access to his potties and quiet neighborhood parking.  Let me know any questions and hope to see you there!

Rode this route again this past Saturday — my second time, and it’s a really nice ride. The turnaround store isn’t much to speak of, but there are plenty of nearby options, including Burger King, Jack in the Box, McDonald’s, and 7-Eleven.

Hi all,
Riders so far and original details below:
Rob M
Gary G
Dana P
Dan D
Pam W

Some cue sheet notes and attached is my revised cue sheet with a "highlights" tab with this info and controls.  Plus, I added a few pics to the RWGPS of our ride today :). Bonus is this is an out & back.
  • Jerry has a trail masterpiece here with so much goodness to enjoy.  Stores aren't plentiful, and there are no restrooms at the turnaround but "I" had no problem finding a ladies room along the way ;)
  • M13 - Portapotty @TRE station - Portapotty is straight ahead as course turns right through parking lot.  No other services.
  • M18 * Glass! * Exiting the coooooolest-bike-trail-ever Rock Island Trail from underneath to the adjacent sidewalk.
  • M20.5 - Construction - road closed, just ride across the grass to turn right on
  • M33 - C4 Valero - No restrooms
  • M43.3 - Turn right IMMEDIATELY after bridge.  Twice, I have followed the GPS, which wants me to go further before turning right and I did it again today.  Just a hiccup on google maps and easy to recover if you go too far.
  • M44 - Go to the left sidewalk when it suits so you don't have to hob a curb later.
  • M45.7 - Construction - hop the curb and ride across grass to path
  • M47.6 * Glass! * The sidewalk before you go back underneath the coooooolest-bike-trail-ever Rock Island Trail "Bridge"
  • M53.3 - Portapotty @TRE station - course turns left at station.  Potty to the right.

LSR,

I nominate Pam as ride leader. Let’s do it Audax style. It’s more fun that way.

The "official" turnaround control, Valero, has no restrooms but I believe you can use the restrooms at Jack-In-the-Box or Burger King which are both very close to the Valero.

I won't be riding this one, but y'all have a good ride!

Jerry

We can’t let you ride without a waiver, we’d like one emailed prior to the ride start and a hard copy at the ride start.

To do my part I’ll have a clipboard with blank waivers on the front porch if remembering to bring one escapes ya.

While riding bikes can be a really good thing, there is always a possibility that something can go wrong and we could get hurt or die….. We just want to keep our assets ;=)

Rando Scout ride :)
  • Start: Sat 10/18, 8:30am
  • Services:  There's really only the one planned store stop in Dallas and it is not a large store.  Unless you want to go to Burger King or Jack in the Box, this store is more for drinks/snax AND there's a donut shop next door I can vouch for :)
FYI, yes, the populaire route is .8 miles longer than the perm because by starting at Dan's house, we have access to his potties and quiet neighborhood parking.  Let me know any questions and hope to see you there!

Extra stuff below has been added to GPS and the attached cue sheet tab "highlights":
    • Jerry has a trail masterpiece here with so much goodness to enjoy.  Stores aren't plentiful, and there are no restrooms at the turnaround but "I" had no problem finding a ladies room along the way ;)
    • M11.5 - Hott Toddie Martin's Memorial Bench
    • M13 - Portapotty @TRE station - straight ahead as course turns right through parking lot.  No other services.
    • M18 * Glass! * Exiting the coooooolest-bike-trail-ever Rock Island Trail from underneath to the adjacent sidewalk.
    • M20.5 - Construction - road closed, just ride across the grass to turn right on
    • M25.7 - PortaPotty to left in parking lot
    • M33 - C4 Valero - No restrooms DonutShop next door.  BurgerKing & JackInTheBox nearby
    • M40.4 - PortaPotty to right in parking lot
    • M43.3 - Turn right IMMEDIATELY after bridge.  Twice, I have followed the GPS, which wants me to go further before turning right and I did it again today.  Just a hiccup on google maps and easy to recover if you go too far.
