Join us April 11, 2026 for an Audax/UAF 100k ride out of Italy, Texas.

On an Audax ride, the whole group sticks together, and tries to maintain a preset pace/schedule.  In addition to keeping the group together, this is also intended to avoid rushing people out of controls.  The preset pace is generally based on a 14 mph rolling average.  We'll appoint captains for lead/rear, with the idea that nobody rides ahead of the lead captain or behind the rear captain.  At least four riders are required to start, and three at the finish, for the ride to qualify as "completed" (and riders are counted, not bikes).  More complete rules can be found here:  https://rusa.org/pages/audax-intro

Start time:  7:30 (daylight start)

Start location:  Shell station/ Texas Best BBQ, on east corner of Hwy 34/ I-35E intersection, in Italy, Texas.  Park at the south end of the parking lot.

RUSA membership is required.  See the RUSA website for details.
Lone Star Randonneurs membership is required.  See the LSR website for details.  Get the form and money in to Dan prior to the ride.
A waiver is attached.  Complete, print, sign, scan, and email to both me and Dan, and bring the original to the ride start.
A cue sheet is attached.  It includes the schedule for all stops, etc.  Check back prior to the ride for any updates.

If we have less than four riders, we do have a backup ride plan, to be confirmed prior to ride start.

The current long-range forecast is a low of 64 on Friday night, a high of 77, "scattered thunderstorms" with chance of rain at 59%, and 15 mph winds from the SSE.  Hopefully, that will improve, check back for updates.  But bring rain gear, and be prepared for some dampness along the way.

Check back for updates!

Update:
The RWGPS link is here, i forgot it earlier:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41230569

Current riders, assuming reasonable weather:
Stephen
Gary
Dana
Sue
Jeremy Gray
Rob

The forecast has improved (yay!) and also is now showing "PM Thunderstorms", so hopefully any bad weather moves on into evening/night.  But that forecast could switch seven times before the ride, so we'll keep watching it.
"Why the early start", I was asked, and it's because I randomly picked some time after sunrise.  Depending on the forecast, we may switch that a bit later.  So check back prior to ride time.
More later,
Stephen H

NOTE:  START TIME REVISED:  8:00 AM Start time.
NOTE:  REVISED CUE SHEET ATTACHED.  (Only change is the time).

Riders:

Stephen
Gary
Dana
Sue
Jeremy Gray
Rob
And a couple of maybes.

Weather:  Current forecast shows 20% chance of rain at 8:00, gradually dropping during the day.  Winds from SE and SSE at 7-12 mph.  Temperature 66 degrees at ride start, increasing to 78 at 2:00 PM.  High humidity. Cloudy to noon, mostly cloudy after that.
So, consider optional raingear.

Reminder:  From Mile 28.8 to Mile 56.4, there are ZERO services, so consider a camelback to make sure you have plenty of water for that stretch.
At Mile 56.4, we stop at the Frost Store, which will probably be open, but no guarantees.  There is another store in the works in Frost, but I don't think it's open yet.

There has been road construction on Hwy 667 between Frost and Italy, so I don't know what we'll find there.

A toast 🥂 is in order to our Master of Pacing for today’s UAF 100k brevet!  (11 seconds left to spare at the end - and then used for perfect timing!))  And many, many thanks to Stephen for the complex organization and communication required.

Sue
