Join us this Saturday for the Whiskey River 145k RUSA Populaire out of Alvarado, Texas.
Start Time: 8:00 AM.
Start Location: Parking at the Alvarado High School parking lot- see attached map. The start control is the store just north of there. We will ride back up to the store, then start from there. Coming from the north on I-35W, take Exit 24 (first exit after Hwy 67), turn back left under the freeway, then back right on the far (2-way) service road. There is a stopsign at an offramp, then turn left into the big parking lot. It is easy to miss in the dark. Go down past the closed gate and circle back up nearer the road to park. (If you did Saturday's ride, we rode right past there.)
The route is 90.8 miles long with stores at the third points. From Alvarado, you go south to Carls Corner, then out to Hillsboro, back up to Woodbury and Blum, then in via Rio Vista. The route name is from the Willie Nelson song of that title. At one time, Willie had a financial interest in the store at Carls Corner, and had some memorabilia on display there. No actual consumption of whiskey is involved in this ride, but you're welcome to belt out the song here or there along the way.
Caution: The older RWGPS files were all intended to be used with a written cue sheet, and may not contain all the data you need to ride the route- use at your own risk!
I see this file shows Blum as an open control. The cue sheet shows The River Stop as the control. Either store can be used.
One note of caution: As you go from Carls Corner to Hillsboro, you have two different places where high-speed traffic may be merging from the RIGHT- usually not a problem, but for sure, pay attention going through there.
RUSA membership is required, see the RUSA website for details.
Lone Star Randonneurs membership is required. See the form on the LSR website. Get that and a check into Dan prior to the ride. I believe both LSR membership and RUSA membership get extended through 2022, confirm with Dan.
There is a $5 ride fee to defray insurance costs, get that into Dan prior to the ride.
Attached is a waiver. Fill out, print, sign, scan, and email that to Dan prior to the ride. Preferably soon rather than later. Also email me to let me know you're coming.
