Encourage your students to think critically about their financial
decisions by asking them to submit a piece of creative writing to our
creative writing contest. This year's topic is Money, Money, Money!?
We're asking high school juniors and seniors to tell us how they will
take charge of budgeting for additional expenses in their last year of
high school.
As your students prepare for their last year of high school and
beyond, they can visit the U.S. Department of Education's website for
some budgeting and financial education pointers. The Student section
provides a wealth of information on topics such as:
• planning for college and technical school;
• financing college;
• getting a job, skill, or trade; and
• exploring other post-graduation options.
Be sure to check out www.ed.gov/students/landing.jhtml for more
information; there is also a Teacher section for you -
www.ed.gov/teachers/landing.jhtml.
As a reminder, the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland's Money, Money,
Money!? creative writing contest is open to 11th and 12th grade
students attending schools in the Fourth Federal Reserve District:
Ohio, western Pennsylvania, eastern Kentucky, and the northern
panhandle of West Virginia. Submissions must be postmarked by Friday,
March 20, 2009.
This year's contest is bigger and better!
• expanded submission possibilities include short
stories, poems, songs, and plays in addition to essays
• addition of prizes for teachers and schools along
with better prizes for contest winners
