What is a powwow?
An intertribal that is open to the
public. A powwow is a Native American social celebration that
includes dancing, singing, drumming, traditional crafts and food.
An intertribal powwow is NOT
a religious ceremony.
Who is the
Red Hawk American Indian Cultural Society?
Red Hawk AICS was formed in 1987
by our recently former president, Darlene Bosela, and currently our
president, Donna Wynn. Red Hawk is a group of Native, Non-Native,
and mixed blood people from the Northeastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania
areas. The inter-tribal, non-political organization was formed to fill
a need for a Native American cultural repository in the Mahoning Valley.
Red Hawk works to preserve and teach the culture and traditions of the
First Americans. We provide education in native arts, crafts, dance,
music, regalia, cooking, life style, history, genealogy, cultural awareness,
and current issues. In addition, we hope to dispel stereotyping
and misconceptions of the Native community..
